Smooth Ceiling Painting

A smooth ceiling painted cleanly in a quality white reads as a well-finished room. The challenge is even coverage without roller marks. In larger Chiltern reception rooms with good natural light, every lap mark and thin patch shows.

We use the correct roller nap for the surface, work in consistent sections, and apply two coats as standard. The result is an even finish that holds under the raking light common in Gerrards Cross and Old Beaconsfield reception rooms.

Artex Removal and Overskimming

Artex textured ceilings are common in Chiltern properties built in the 1960s and 1970s, particularly in New Beaconsfield and Seer Green. Artex applied before 2000 may contain low levels of chrysotile asbestos. We advise a test before any removal work begins.

Where Artex is safe to remove, we use appropriate methods and arrange overskimming to produce a smooth surface.

Cornicing and Ceiling Roses

Period properties throughout the Chiltern district carry original plaster cornicing and ceiling roses. These features add character and value. They require hand-cutting at every junction between the cornice and both the ceiling and wall surfaces.

Beaconsfield Decorators do not use rollers close to moulded plasterwork. Clean lines at period cornicing are achieved with a fine brush and the time it takes.

Water Staining and Damp Patches

A brown water stain on a ceiling tells a story. Painting over it with standard emulsion results in the stain bleeding through the finish within weeks.

We use stain-blocking primer on any water-damaged area before applying the finish coat. If the stain is ongoing, painting over it is not a lasting solution. We raise the question of the source.

For whole-house interior work including ceilings, see our interior painters page. Our plasterboard painting and hallway painters pages cover related surfaces.

Ceiling painting is usually quoted as part of a room repaint. Where only the ceiling is being painted, costs are lower than a full room but preparation and access still apply.
